Most Earth-Like planet ever discovered.
Kepler 22b was discovered about two years ago, but new research has revealed that it is the most similar to Earth of any planet so far discovered.
The average temperature is around 22 degrees Celsius (72 deg F). The planet is twice the size of Earth, and the distance from its star means it could have continents and oceans like Earth - and where there’s oceans, there could already be life.
“This discovery supports the growing belief that we live in a universe crowded with life,” said Dr Alan Boss, from the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington DC, who helped identify the planet from data obtained by the Kepler space telescope.
Keppler 22b is 600 light years from Earth.
